Tupac Amaru Shakur, better known as 2Pac, was a rap legend and actor from the United States. By 2010, almost fifteen years after his death, Tupac has sold over 75 million records, making him one of the best selling recording artists in history. Rolling Stone magazine has mentioned his name among 100 all-time greatest artists. The themes of his lyrics covered violence and other problems in inner cities, including racism and conflicts among the West Coast and East Cost rappers. 2Pac’s death from multiple gunshots in 1996 shocked the rap fans all over the world. At the time he was shot Tupac net worth was estimated at $40 million.
Tupac was born in East Harlem, in 1971. Both his father Billy Gerland and his mother Afeni Shakur were active members of Black Panther, an American revolutionary socialist organization, which was active until 1982. They named their son in honor of Peruvian revolutionary Tupac Amaru. Since his childhood the boy lived among people who were constantly in and out of jail. His godfather Elmer Pratt was charged with murder and his stepfather’s name was on FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitive’s List for 4 years.
2Pac’s professional career began in 90s, when he appeared on the movie Nothing But Trouble and featured on its soundtrack. Subsequently the band Digital Underground, with 2Pac as one of the MC’s, released singles “Doowutchyalike” and the “Humpty Dance”. The popularity of these songs paved the ground for the success of their album Sex Packets, which made a first formidable contribution to Tupac net worth.
The profits from this album seem miserable compared to the sales of Me Against the World, which was released in 1995, after Tupac started serving his time in jail. The most successful single on the album was “Dear Mamma”. It instantly toped Hot Rap Singles chart, peaked at No. 9 on Billboard Hot 100 and was certified Platinum by Recording Industries Association in the middle of the same year. “Dear Mamma” was followed by the singles “So Many Tears” and “Temptations”. The whole album debuted at the top of Billboard 200 and stayed on charts for weeks. It sold 240 thousand records during the week after its release and was certified 2x Platinum by the end of 1995. The sales from this album boosted Tupac net worth to millions of dollars. Sadly, he never got a proper chance to make use of these fortunes.
Tupac net worth soon became worthless for him, as he was shot in September of the following year. Although the exact circumstances that led to his death remains unknown, the most probable version was provided by the journalist Chuck Philips. According to him, the shootings were carried by the gang Crips, as a revenge for Orlando Anderson, whom Tupac has attacked earlier the same evening.
